The Newburyport Chess Club is one of the longest-running chess clubs in Massachusetts. We provide a friendly-but-competitive, handicap-accessible site environment, easily reached from greater Boston, New Hampshire, and southern Maine. The club holds rated tournaments and casual play weekly, meeting Monday nights, opening at 6:30 PM.  Tournaments typically run monthly, starting on the first week of every month and ending on the last week. Members range from Beginners to Masters, providing challenge for all levels of players. All comers are welcome.

3/12/2026 update --

I want to thank Robert Cousins and Gerry Potorski for their additional efforts to make this past week's club meeting work in my absence. I don't miss many meetings, but it's good to know that the ship can keep its course even when I'm under the weather. As this delayed email suggests, it's been a less-than-fun week, but I'm on the mend, and I do expect to be back on Monday for the March/April event's first round.

Please note that, because the March-April event will be elongated over two months, the entry fee will be $30 on Monday.
